Peter LuukkoThe Business of Hockey Institute (BHI) announced this week that Peter Luukko, Executive Chairman of the Florida Panthers and its parent company, Sunrise Sports & Entertainment LLC, will be recognized for his outstanding contributions to the business of hockey through the awarding of BHI’s honorary Certified Hockey Professional (CHP) designation.

“This is a tremendous honor for me and my family,” said Luukko. “The BHI is an invaluable organization for the global hockey community and their support, mentorship and leadership have served our industry very well over the years.”

In addition to serving as the Executive Chairman of the Florida Panthers, Peter is a member of the NHL Board of Governors and Co-Chairman of the Arena Alliance, a subsidiary of Oak View Group. Peter was previously the President and Chief Operating Officer of Comcast-Spectacor, L.P. where he oversaw all operations of the Philadelphia Flyers. During his 25-year tenure with Comcast-Spectacor, Peter led the company’s facility-management business, growing it from seven facilities to over 125, helped the City of Philadelphia solidify itself as an American sports mecca by attract numerous preeminent sports and entertainment events, and was instrumental in the Flyers hosting a NHL Winter Classic and the 2014 NHL Entry Draft.

Peter’s accomplishments in sports and facility management have led to distinct recognition from the University of Massachusetts, the City of Philadelphia and the sports and entertainment industry at large. The honorary CHP is awarded to an individual who epitomizes the qualities, capabilities, and accomplishments desired by existing and future CHPs. An honorary CHP also recognizes individuals who have made impressive off-ice contributions to their organizations that have earned them the respect of their peers in other hockey-related organizations.
