BHI is proud to welcome Cari Duggan as our first female student in the Certified Hockey Professional (“CHP”) program. Cari Duggan is a woman of many; she is a leader and a trailblazer in sport business, an accomplished scholar, and an entrepreneur.
Cari completed her undergraduate degree and master’s degree at Saint Mary’s University. She earned a Bachelor of Commerce and a Masters of Business Administration, being one of five student managers, and graduating as the Ceremonial Hooding Candidate in 2000. Cari differentiates herself by holding a multitude of designations and certificates including a Project Management (PMP) designation, a Chartered Professional in Human Resources (CPHR) designation, and a Certificate in Labour Relations from Queens University. Having a diverse and extensive background in education has assisted Cari in making an impact in the hockey industry.
With over 17 years of management experience, Cari leads by example by constantly improving her skill set and broadening her education. Her previous work experience includes holding a senior management position for Bell Aliant for 15 years, and being awarded the CEO Honour Roll Award. More recently in 2015, Cari was one of three management negotiators in Canada with Canadian Blood Services – holding responsibility for 13 collective agreements.
Her outstanding academic achievements and background in management led Cari to establishing Outside Edge Hockey Development Inc in June of 2015. Outside Edge is a hockey development organization, where Cari currently serves as the President. Through its unique, forward thinking approach to hockey development, Outside Edge provides hockey players with the opportunities necessary to develop athletic strengths and skills, while enhancing their enjoyment and passion for the game. Outside Edge continues to grow and currently holds a training contract with Quebec Major Junior Hockey League team, the Halifax Mooseheads, for the off-ice training of its major junior players, as well as on-ice and off-ice hockey development for its 6 AAA Elite Spring Hockey Teams.
Cari aspires to be a recognized hockey leader and has taken the necessary steps by becoming one of BHI’s CHP Candidates – and notably the first female Candidate. Cari is confident that she can use the invaluable knowledge, tools, and strategies taught within the CHP program to guide the strategic direction of Outside Edge:
“This opportunity with BHI will most certainly provide Outside Edge Hockey Development with a competitive edge and I am very proud to be the first female to be accepted into the CHP Program. I look forward to applying the knowledge gained and incredible networking experience to further develop and contribute to the “think tank” that will provide leadership to hockey organizations moving forward.”
Constantly striving to improve the game through the application of innovative ideas with Outside Edge, BHI welcomes Cari to an already impressive student body looking to make valuable contributions to the business of hockey.
